In 2012 I took part in a feasabillity study where we showed how to search for magnetic monopoles stopped in the beampipes at the LHC with a super conducting magnetometer (SQUID). The study showed that the method is indeed sensitive to potential monopoles.
The perspective is to remove the beam pipes in the vicinity of the ATLAS and CMS detectors during the next shutdown of the LHC and test the pipes for monopoles. (New beryllium pipes will replace them).
